A Stainless Steel Slip-On Raised Face (SS SORF) flange is a durable pipe fitting designed to slide over the end of a pipe and be fillet-welded in place, featuring a raised surface for improved gasket sealing. Ideal for low-pressure, low-temperature applications, these flanges are commonly used in industries like oil & gas for their ease of alignment and superior corrosion resistance, typically produced in 304/304L or 316/316L grades.
Key Features and Specifications:
Design: The flange ID is slightly larger than the pipe OD, allowing it to slide over the pipe.
Welding: Requires two fillet welds (one inside, one outside) to secure it to the pipe.
Face Type: Raised Face (RF) ensures higher pressure on the gasket area for better sealing, particularly with spiral wound gaskets.
Material Grades: Commonly available in stainless steel 304, 304L (low carbon for welding), 316, 316L, 310, and 321.
Standards: Typically conform to ASME B16.5 (for sizes 1/2″ to 24″) and ASME B16.47 (for larger sizes), or DIN, BS, and EN standards.
Pressure Ratings: Commonly available in Class 150, 300, 600, and up to 1500, with lower ratings (PN6-PN64) also common.
Advantages: Lower cost than weld neck flanges, easier to align during installation, and ideal for smaller pipe diameters.
Common Applications:
Oil & Gas: Used in pipelines and process equipment.
Chemical Industry: Suitable for handling corrosive fluids due to stainless steel construction.
Water Treatment & Piping Systems: General, low-stress, and low-pressure piping networks.
